About the founder

Dr. Ir. Ronald Plompen

Ronald Plompen founded Flyzone in 2003. Flyzone brings the expertise of seasoned business innovators to help established and new businesses to improve, generate, evaluate, develop and implement innovative ideas and innovative business models. Thus, creating substantial added economic value. Ronald revamped the KPN Corporate Venture program and was managing director of KPN Ventures. He created a fund of funds for KPN and founded a joint venture with another corporate venture group (Dutch publisher VNU): KPN-VNU ventures. Ronald has an international network of professionals in the financial world (Venture Capitalists and Investment Banking), ICT-industry and the Scientific community (universities and corporate R&D institutes).

Ronald is strong in creatively solving business strategy issues, as well as in taking the necessary business implementation follow-up-steps. He has always worked on the forefront of innovation during his career. First, as an architect and governor in international standardization forums (ITU,ETSI, ISO, RACE). Later, as entrepreneur. He created a company and realized various innovative multimedia services: videoconferencing applications and services, video over internet, audio conferencing services (FinanceWeb TV, Switchpoint, WebCast) and multimedia conferencing services. He was the initiator of a commercial European video communication program (video conferencing) in which 5 European telecom operators and 100 European corporates participated. Ronald Plompen graduated from Delft Technical University (MSc). He holds a doctorate (PhD) in Natural Science based on his international work on motion video coding for visual telephony, from which MPEG and Skype are derived.
